Thinking of Making the Switch to Vaping? Top 10 Vaping Questions & Answers Volume 1

If you are thinking of making the switch to vaping then firstly, welcome and congratulations! You probably have many questions about it and also questions you may not even know to ask, and that’s ok. To make it easy, here are some of the top 10 questions for people wanting to know more before making the switch.

1 – What is Vaping?

Vaping doesn’t combust or burn like traditional tobacco products. E-liquid is heated at very high temperature through a vape device creating vapour. Unlike cigarettes, there is no chemical change from e-liquid to vapour. If you want more information on this topic, you can find it here

2 – Is Vaping Safer Than Smoking Tobacco Products?

Evidence from many studies have shown that vaping is 95% healthier than tobacco products. If you want more information on this topic, you can find it here.

3 – What is E-Liquid?

There are 3 main ingredients in e-liquid and a optional 4th being liquid nicotine. The 3 main ingredients are *Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and natural/artificial flavouring that are all food grade. PG, VG and flavouring are in many consumable products from food, drinks, cosmetics and even medication.

*If you have an allergy or are sensitivity to Propylene Glycol, Aqueous Glycerine is a great alternative. It is made from Vegetable Glycerine which has been diluted to make it a thinner viscosity similar too PG. As its thinner it should still be mixed with VG  so it has the same consistency of a VG/PG mix.

4 – What Does Mouth To Lung and Direct Lung Mean?

Mouth to Lung (MTL) is the most similar to smoking a cigarette. Essentially sucking vapour into your mouth and then inhaling it into your throat then into your lungs.

Direct Lung (DL) is essentially inhaling the vapour directly into your lungs (think of inhaling a helium balloon). If you aren’t used to it, it can surprise you and that’s why a lot… A LOT of people will have the biggest coughing fit of their lives. Why? Because its a more powerful delivery system into the lungs compared to MTL.

5 – How Much Does Vaping Set-Up Cost?

The initial outlay can cost a bit more than a pack of smokes but it depends what you get. *Complete kits can range from under $50 for lower powered simple devices to over $100 for more advanced types. Complete kits include almost everything you need to get started which are; mod, tank, coils and other spare parts. It’s recommended to start simple for your first device to get you used to vaping.

*External battery kits do not include batteries and need to be purchased separately. If you don’t already have an external battery charger, you will also need one of them too.

6 – What are the Ongoing Costs?

Ongoing costs are significantly lower than buying cigarettes. E-liquid which range between $20 to $55 and coils averaging around $15 – $25 for a pack of 4 or 5. External batteries only need to be replaced once a year, unless they become damaged then they need to be replaced immediately.

7 – How Long Do Coils Last?

This really depends on how often you vape and they type of coil. Generally speaking, coils can last anywhere between 1 and 3 weeks. You will know when it’s time to change when the flavour starts to disappear and/or taste burnt.

8 – How Long Does E-Juice Last?

Again, this really depends on how often you vape and the device you use. For the average vaper, 10ml of e-liquid should last around 2-3 days.

9 – Do I Have To Have Liquid Nicotine?

May seem like an odd question but it is one we get asked a lot. The short answer is no, it is an optional extra and has no impact on how vape devices work. However, if you are replacing cigarettes with vaping and no nicotine, the satisfaction levels may not be met, which could lead to purchasing “one more packet”. You can use alternative nicotine replacement therapies such as gum and patches when you vape.

10 – What Flavour(s) Should I Get?

Finding your vaping preferences is all about experimentation as what works for one person my not necessarily work for you. If you are starting vaping to quit smoking, it can be a good idea to get a tobacco flavoured e-liquid. Many tobacco blends mimic the taste of popular brands including menthol. Especially if you are going nicotine free, tobacco flavours can help even more to replicate a real cigarette.

Feeling adventurous and want to try something different? One of the easiest ways to choose a vape flavour is to go with flavours you already like. An easy first pick would be a single flavour option. Picking your favourite fruit is a good way to go as they are more predictable.
