How To Clean Your Tank

Keeping your tank clean ensures your equipment is always working at its best. It also produces better flavour and better experience. If you haven’t cleaned your tank before, or only clean it when changing flavours, you might want to make it more of a regular routine. A clean tank not only performs and tastes better, it prolong its life by being looked after. This blog is going to give you the tips and tricks on how to clean your tank in easy step by step instructions.

Why Clean Your Tank?

Why clean the tank? Over time residue and gunk builds up which can not only affect the taste but the overall performance as well. Build-up can cause the device to have to work harder, leaking issues, spit back and a burnt taste. It’s not only the visual gunk that builds-up, but bacteria and other nasty’s that could make you sick – YUK!

Keeping your tank clean on a regular basis can help avoid any issues that are easily preventable.

How To Clean Your Tank

Firstly, get set up you will need

  • Paper towels
  • Cotton tips
  • Two bowls
  • A clean area to work in

Using pure alcohol or alcohol-based cleaner (rubbing alcohol) diluted in warm water work great to get rid of stubborn stains inside and out. If you don’t have that you can make up your own solution with boiling water and adding distilled white vinegar. Just wait for the water cool down to a warm temperature before you start.

The Steps

  1. Put the cleaning solution in one bowl
  2. Remove the tank from the device
  3. Dispose of any remaining e-liquid
  4. Take the tank apart and put the pieces in the other dry bowl. This allows any excess e-liquid to drain away and be contained in the bowl rather than anywhere else
  5. Place everything except the coil into the cleaning solution and let it soak for a few minutes
  6. Using a cotton tip, remove any visible residue. If it’s not coming off easily, let it soak a little longer
  7. Check the O-rings and/or seals. If they are in good condition, simply soak for a few minutes. If they are damaged replace them, need replacements? you can find them here
  8. Let everything air dry on paper towels
  9. It’s super important that all parts a dry before reassembling

Cleaning Coils

We don’t recommend cleaning coils in water as it can cause the wire components to rust. Change to a completely new coil when it’s time to do so and remember to always prime new coils prior to use.

If your coil doesn’t need to be replaced but there is build up present, use a cotton tip to wipe it away. Be gentle as to not move the wire or mesh inside the coil.

How Often Should You Clean Your Tank?

Depending on how much you use your device, heavy vapers should clean their tank once a week. If you aren’t a heavy vaper, at least twice a month is adequate. This will change however, if you are unwell with a cold or flu. Frequent cleaning of the mouthpiece in these situations is highly recommended. For those that suffer from cold sores will require daily cleaning of their mouthpiece to help prevent reinfection. The bacteria from cold sores can remain on surfaces for 4 days. A good option is to have a few spare drip tips available to use while others are being washed.

So, Keep it Clean!
